Public Transport

Foreign participants should plan to arrive at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo (GRU) or Viracopos Airport in Campinas. São Paulo Bus Station is called Rodoviária do Tietê.

To get to São Carlos from Guarulhos airport (GRU) by public bus:

Option 1: Take the Airport Bus Service (http://www.airportbusservice.com.br/br/linhas) to the bus station of Tietê. There is a bus every 50 minutes and the cost is of 36,50 R$. The bus will take between 25 minutes and 20 hours (depending on the traffic!). Once in Tietê, there are two companies that go to São Carlos, Empresa Cruz (http://www.empresacruz.com.br/) and Cometa (http://www.viacaocometa.com.br/pt/). There are many buses per day, the price is around 50 R$ and it will take around 3 hours 30 minutes.

Option 2: Take the Lirabus (http://www.lirabus.com.br/lira/traslados.php#) from the airport GRU to Campinas Bus Station ("Rodoviária" in portuguese). You can buy the ticket in the Lirabus booth in Terminal 2. From Campinas Bus Station take a bus to São Carlos with either Empresa Cruz or Cometa (see links above). This option might be faster if you get a good combination of buses, however, if you don't, it might take much longer since there are less buses to São Carlos from Campinas than from Tietê.

To get to São Carlos from Viracopos airport by public bus:

Take the Lirabus (http://www.lirabus.com.br/lira/traslados.php#) from the airport to Campinas Bus Station ("Rodoviária" in portuguese). From Campinas Bus Station take a bus to São Carlos with either Empresa Cruz or Cometa (see links above).
